The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) is a learned society and professional body for geography based in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1830, it has advanced geography and supported geographers through its 16,000 members. The society holds over 150,000 bound volumes, over half a million photographs and artworks, and over a thousand artefacts, whilst reaching the public through publications, research groups and lectures.
